1 Exfoliate your skin

2 Apply a face and body moisturizer before applying Self Tanner

The self tanning reaction can only occur in the presence of water, so it is important for the skin to be moisturized to obtain optimal results.

3 Apply your Self Tanner

Apply your self tanner in small amounts, with light smoothing motions, starting at the feet (avoid soles) and working your way up to neck and face. Always apply very lightly over elbows, knees, ankles and heels.

4 Avoid the eyebrows and hairline on the face

Apply moisturizer to areas where you did not apply self tanner. Then gently rub these areas into self tanned areas for a natural blending of colour.

5 After application, wash hands and nails

Wash hands thoroughly and in between fingers 2-3 times throughout application.

6 Dry off

Allow skin to dry completely for 30 minutes to 1 hour before swimming, sweating or wearing tight clothing.

7 Maintain your Self Tan

For a darker tanned result, apply the self-tanner again later in the day. To maintain a beautiful, radiant tan, reapply your self-tanner every three days and gently exfoliate skin once a week before application.

Are there self tanners that won't turn me orange?

The key is in the formula! Clarins formulas contain two active ingredients – DHA & Erythrulose - in complementary colours for a natural-looking tan and even colour on all skin tones:

Natural

The colour created by the DHA reaction is more yellow and less red than natural skin colour. The addition of Erythrulose tempers the orange and produces a more natural-looking colour.

Even

Erythrulose spreads uniformly assuring good distribution of the colour.
How do I correct self tanning mistakes?

Don't panic. Depending on your timing, you can adopt 2 different strategies to help fade any streaks.

Choose the make-up option! Use a liquid or compact foundation that matches your skin tone or is one shade lighter. Apply onto any streaks or mistakes on the skin.

Does a self tanner protect against UV rays?

The colouring of the skin from a self tanner does not protect skin against UV rays!

Unlike melanin pigments which form during sun exposure, melanoidins do not give protection against UV rays. You must use a protective sun care whenever you are in the sun.

Are there self tanners that won't dry my skin out?

All Clarins self tanners contain Aloe Vera extract to compensate the drying effect from self tanners molecules. The more moisturized your skin is, the longer your tan will last.
