Lotus

Lotus japonicus
The lotus japonicus is a common, hardy plant of the legume family. It has pod-shaped fruit which resemble the toes of a bird’s foot, hence its other name of “bird’s foot trefoil”. In the presence of certain micro-organisms in the soil, the plant’s roots develop nodules called zymbiosomes. In cosmetics, extract of lotus japonicus zymbiosome is used for its brightening properties.
