Watermelon grows wild in the semi-desert regions of southern Africa, and is perfectly suited to the arid environment. Beneath the fruit’s thick rind is a sweet and tasty, red or yellow-colored flesh which is extremely thirst-quenching due to its very high water content, which is approximately 90%. Watermelon is an essential source of water, and vital to the survival of people and animals living in desert regions. It can be found throughout the southern Mediterranean and anywhere the climate is hot
