Ginseng is a large yellowy-white, gnarled root from Northeast Asia and is known by various poetic names—Root of Heaven, Promise of Eternal Life and Flower of Life. Its story started in China, in approximately 3,000 BC, when Emperor Chen-Nong, founder of agriculture, chose ginseng as the “heavenly” plant and made a precious elixir from it, reserved solely for the emperors.
