The woman
Mirriam always believes in the African philosophy of ubuntu, where communities take care of their own by sharing the little that they have. She thinks that the potential to become a lawyer, doctor or engineer, or a murderer, robber or rapist depends on how we collectively respond to the challenge of Aids orphans.

Her fight: « Gozololo »
Gozolo operates on three basic principles: firstly, to return love to the lives of abandoned or orphaned children by placing them in extended families, secondly, to provide them with monthly food parcels and school uniforms, and thirdly, to empower them through education and recreational activities like sewing and sport. Volunteer child minders look after abandoned and traumatized children at night and they attend the care centre during the day. Basics like food parcels and clothing are provided, but more importantly, the children receive psychological support and the opportunity to thrive in a loving family.

What about now?
Gozololo is run with the help of numerous benefactors and has been able to help more than 1,300 children.
