<p><strong>The woman</strong><br />When Guadalupe was told that her small son had leukemia, she came face to face with the tragedy of children with cancer. She was brought into contact with children suffering from the disease whose families, unlike her own, were unable to pay for treatment. Almost immediately, Guadalupe began to fight for these children, forcing Mexican society to face up to the needs of families who had previously suffered in silence.</p><p><strong>Her fight: « AMANC »</strong><br />On June 15, 1982, Guadalupe Alejandre Castle founded the Mexican Association Assisting Children with Cancer, AMANC. This pioneering institution in Mexico supports Mexican children, girls and young adults diagnosed with cancer who come from deprived backgrounds and do not have healthcare.</p><p><strong>What about now?</strong><br />Independent associations in 20 states of the Republic have been constituted, in addition to the Federal District, which operate with the name, Lineamientos y Espíritu of AMANC.</p>
